Colossesi 1:27

A chi - Ai santi.

Dio avrebbe fatto conoscere - "Voluto (greco) di far conoscere;" cioè, era lieto di farlo sapere. Era nascosto nel suo seno fino a quando decise di rivelarlo ai suoi apostoli. Era una dottrina che il popolo ebraico non capiva; Efesini 3:5 .

Qual è la ricchezza della gloria di questo mistero - La ricca gloria di questa grande verità a lungo nascosta. Sull'uso della parola “ricchezza”, vedi le note in Romani 2:4 . È una parola preferita dall'apostolo Paolo per indicare ciò che è prezioso o abbonda. Il significato qui è che la verità che il Vangelo doveva essere predicato a tutta l'umanità era una verità ricca di gloria.

Tra i Gentili - Cioè, la gloria di questa verità si manifesta per gli effetti che ha prodotto tra i Gentili.

Which is Christ in you, the hope of glory - Or, Christ among you. Margin. The meaning is, that the whole of that truth, so full of glory, and so rich and elevated in its effect, is summed up in this - that Christ is revealed among you as the source of the hope of glory in a better world. This was the great truth which so animated the heart and fired the zeal of the apostle Paul. The wonderful announcement had burst on his mind like a flood of day, that the offer of salvation was not to be confined, as he had once supposed, to the Jewish people, but that all men were now placed on a level; that they had a common Saviour; that the same heaven was now opened for all, and that there were none so degraded and vile that they might not have the offer of life as well as others.

Questa grande verità Paolo bruciava per comunicarla al mondo intero; e per averlo tenuto, e per farlo conoscere, si era impegnato in tutte le difficoltà che aveva con i propri concittadini; aveva sofferto di miseria, pericolo e fatica; ed era stato finalmente fatto prigioniero, e si aspettava di essere messo a morte. Era proprio una verità tale da accendere una mente come quella di Paolo, e farla; noto come degno di tutti i sacrifici e le fatiche che ha sopportato. La vita è ben sacrificata per far conoscere al mondo una tale dottrina.
