_AMMIEL THE SIXTH, ISSACHAR THE SEVENTH, PEULTHAI THE EIGHTH: FOR GOD BLESSED HIM._ God blessed him - i:e., Obed-edom. The occasion of the blessing was his faithful custody of the ark (2 Samuel 6:11), and the nature of the blessing (Psalms 127:5) consisted in the great increase of progeny by which his house was distinguished: seventy-two descendants are reckoned....

Verse 1 Chronicles 26:5. _FOR GOD BLESSED HIM._] "That is, Obed-edom; because of the ark of the Lord which was in his house; and to him was given the honour that he should see his children and grand-children, even fourscore and two, masters of the Levites." - _T_. In 1 Chronicles 26:8, we have only _sixty-two_ mentioned....

EXPOSITION This chapter is occupied in its first nineteen verses with an enumeration of the porters and Then of their arrangement. The porters were those who were to have charge of the entrances of the sanctuary. _for God blessed him_ "Him" refers to "Obed-edom" (1 Chronicles 26:4), who was blessed with eight sons. He himself acknowledged the blessing by naming the seventh son "Issachar" ("Reward"), and the eighth PEULLETHAI ("Recompence")....
