_THEN SOLOMON SAT ON THE THRONE OF THE LORD AS KING INSTEAD OF DAVID HIS FATHER, AND PROSPERED; AND ALL ISRAEL OBEYED HIM._ Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord. As king of Israel, he was the Lord's vicegerent. When David was appointed successor to Saul, he was employed merely as Yahweh's deputy (2 Samuel 5:2). His commission runs in the style of that of an inferior officer. The people whom he was to rule were not David's; they were still God's. Even when the throne was made hereditary in the house of David, Yahweh exercised his right of election by preferring Solomon to all his brethren, so that when Solomon was anointed theocratic king in Israel, it was justly said of him, that he 'sat on the throne of the Lord' (Jamieson's 'Sacred History,' 1:, p. 314)....

20-25 This great assembly joined with David in adoring God. Whoever is the mouth of the congregation, those only have the benefit who join him, not by bowing down the head, so much as by lifting up the soul. Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord. Solomon's kingdom typified the kingdom of the Messiah, whose throne is the throne of the Lord....

The throne of David is called here “the throne of the Lord,” as in 1 Chronicles 28:5 it is called “the throne of the kingdom of the Lord,” because God had set it up and had promised to establish it....

EXPOSITION 1 CHRONICLES 29:1 These verses continue the account of what David said to the whole congregation, respecting his son Solomon and his tender age in view of the great enterprise of building the temple; respecting the public preparations which had been already made, and the gifts of his own individual property—these latter being alluded to, no doubt, for the sake of example. On the faith of them he grounds with tenfold effect his appeal to people and princes to join heartily in the work. The verses (6-9)also contain the statement of the hearty practical response which was made by the "chiefs of the fathers and princes of the tribes," and other varieties of givers, and of the consequent general joy. 1 CHRONICLES 29:1

THEN SOLOMON SAT ON THE THRONE OF THE LORD,.... Who had given it to him, and established him on it, and whose vicegerent he was, and over whose people he ruled: AS KING INSTEAD OF DAVID; he was viceroy to him in his life time, and succeeded him at his death, when he had the full power of government: AND PROSPERED; his reign was happy and peaceable: AND ALL ISRAEL OBEYED HIM; at once; whereas it was some time, even years, before all Israel obeyed David....
