_FORTY AND TWO YEARS OLD WAS AHAZIAH WHEN HE BEGAN TO REIGN, AND HE REIGNED ONE YEAR IN JERUSALEM. HIS MOTHER'S NAME ALSO WAS ATHALIAH THE DAUGHTER OF OMRI._ Forty and two years old - (cf. 2 Kings 8:26.) According to that passage, the commencement of his reign is dated in the 22nd year of his age; and according to this, in the 42nd year of the kingdom of his mothers family. 'If Ahaziah ascended the throne in the 22nd year of his life, he must have been born in his father's nineteenth year. Hence, it may seem strange that he had older brothers; but in the East they marry early, and royal princes had, besides the wife of the first rank, usually concubines, as Jehoram had (2 Chronicles 21:17); he might, therefore, in the 19th year of his age, very well have several sons' (Keil) (c

Ahaziah might have been _twenty-two_ years old, according to 2 Kings 8:26, but he could not have been _forty-two_, as stated here, without being _two years older_ _than his own father_! See the note there. The _Syriac_ and _Arabic_ have _twenty-two_, and the _Septuagint_, in some copies, _twenty_. And it is very probable that the Hebrew text read so originally; for when _numbers_ were expressed by _single letters_, it was easy to mistake מ _mem_, FORTY, for כ _caph_, TWENTY. And if this book was written by a scribe who used the ancient _Hebrew letters_, now called...

In 2 Kings 8:26 Ahaziah's actual age (twenty-two years) is given when he began to reign (790) during the two years of his father's disease. His father, Jehoram, was thirty-two when he began to reign with Jehoshaphat, two years before the latter's death (2 Kings 8:16). This was in 796. Jehoram therefore was born in 828. Ahaziah, his son, being twenty-two when he began his co-regency, was therefore born in 812; his father being sixteen years old. See App-50. pp 2Ch 57:58. DAUGHTER OF OMRI. _Forty and two years old_ LXX., ὢν εἴκοσι ἐτῶν agreeing nearly with 2 Kings 8:26, "two-and-twenty years old" (Heb. and LXX.). _daughter of Omri_ So 2 Kings 8:26, but more correctly "daughter of Ahab" (2 Kings 8:18)....
