Verse Isaiah 32:13. _SHALL COME UP THORNS AND BRIERS_ - "The thorn and the brier shall come up"] All the ancient Versions read ושמיר _veshamir_, with the conjunction. And an ancient MS. has תעלה בו _taaleh bo_, "shall come up in it," which seems to be right; or rather בה _bah_: and there is a rasure in the place of בו _bo_ in another ancient MS. _YEA, UPON ALL THE HOUSES OF JOY_] For כי _ki_, the ancient Versions, except the _Vulgate_, seem to have read ו _ve_. כי ki may perhaps be a mistake for בו _bo_, or בה _bah, in it_, above mentioned. YEA, UPON ALL THE HOUSES OF JOY - Margin, ‘Burning upon.’ The marginal readling has originated from the supposition that the word כי _kı̂y_ is derived from כיה _kâvâh_, “to be burned.” This conjecture has been adopted by Junius and Tremellius, and by some others. ISAIAH 32. This chapter is regarded by some scholars as non-Isaianic on the ground of phraseology and ideas, but while it may have been interpolated, it is probably in the main Isaiah's work. It falls into two parts: (_a_) Isaiah 32:1, (_b_) Isaiah 32:9. The date of the former is uncertain. It may belong to the same period as Isaiah 28-31. The address to the women which follows recalls the denunciation in Isaiah 3:16, but it does not necessarily belong to the same period. And it too may belong to the same period as Isaiah 28-31.
