Our Lord rejoiced at the prospect of the salvation of many souls. It was fit that particular notice should be taken of that hour of joy; there were few such, for He was a man of sorrows: in that hour in which he saw Satan fall, and heard of the good success of his ministers, in that hour he rejoiced. He has ever resisted the proud, and given grace to the humble. Verse Luke 10:21. _REJOICED IN SPIRIT_] Was truly and heartily joyous: felt an inward triumph. But τῳ πνευματι, τῳ ἁγιῳ, _the HOLY Spirit_, is the reading here of BCDKL, _six_ others; the _three Syriac_, later _Persic, Coptic, AEthiopic, Armenian, Vulgate_, all the _Itala_ except one, and _Augustin_ and _Bede_. These might be considered sufficient authority to admit the word into the text. _I THANK THEE_] Bishop PEARCE justly observes, the thanks are meant to be given to God for revealing them to babes, not for hiding them from the others.
