19._Go out, therefore, and teach all nations. _Though Mark, after having related that Christ _appeared to the eleven disciples, _immediately subjoins the command to _preach the gospel, _he does not speak of these as an unbroken series of events, for we learn from the enumeration of them which is given by Matthew, that the latter event did not take place before they had gone _into Galilee. _The meaning amounts to this, that by proclaiming the gospel everywhere, they should bring _all nations _to the obedience of the faith, and next, that they should seal and ratify their doctrine by the sign of the gospel. It is natural to suppose that _adults_ were the first subjects of baptism; for as the Gospel was, in a peculiar manner, sent to the Gentiles, they must hear and receive it, before they could be expected to renounce their old prejudices and idolatries, and come into the bonds of the Christian covenant. The account of the resurrection of the Lord as given by Matthew is the briefest of all the Gospels. Only a few of the facts are mentioned. Then the characteristic feature of this last chapter is that no mention is made of the ascension of the Lord. However, the fact of His ascension is implied in numerous places in the Gospel. In the Gospel of Mark we find the statement that He was taken up into heaven and sat at the ri
