_AND IN THE FOURTEENTH DAY OF THE FIRST MONTH IS THE PASSOVER OF THE LORD._ In the fourteenth day of the first month is the Passover. The law for that great annual festival is given, Leviticus 23:5, but some details are here introduced, as certain specified offerings are prescribed to be made on each of the seven days of unleavened bread. 16-31 By the sacrifices enjoined in this chapter, we are reminded of the continued power of the sacrifice of Christ, and of our continual need to depend thereon. No hurrying employments, or perilous situations, or prosperous circumstances, should cause slackness in our religious exercises; but should rather stir us up to greater diligence in seeking help from, or giving thanks to the Lord. And all is to be accompanied with repentance, faith is the Lord Jesus, and love to him, and to produce true holiness in our conduct towards all men; otherwise God will abhor our most solemn services and abundant devotions. And Christ is able to supply the wants of every day, every week, every month, every year, every ordinance, every case....

The Passover offering was the same as that of the New moon, and was repeated on each of the seven days of the festival, thus marking the importance and the solemnity of the occasion. The details of the offering had not been previously prescribed....

EXPOSITION THE ROUTINE OF SACRIFICIAL OFFERINGS (Numbers 28:1, Numbers 29:1). NUMBERS 28:1 THE LORD SPAKE UNTO MOSES. NUMBERS 28-29. THE NATURE AND AMOUNT OF THE OFFERINGS REQUIRED ON VARIOUS HOLY DAYS. The quantities prescribed for special festivals did not exhaust all the sacrifices offered upon them: on every festival the special sacrifices were supplemented by the daily offerings; on the first of the seventh month the distinctive offerings were supplemented by the offerings required for the first of each ordinary month; whilst on the tenth of the seventh month the sin offering of atonement (Leviticus 16) was supplementary to the other sacrifices here enjoined. LAWS REGARDING SACRIFICES AND FESTIVALS 1, 2. The general laws regarding the sacriflees proper to the feast days had already been given at Sinai (Leviticus 23). Their repetition with certain details here probably indicates that these laws had been neglected. Some of them, indeed, were only intended to be observed after the settlement in Canaan, which was now in the near future. Moreover, the generation to whom they were spoken at Sinai had passed away. Hence their repetition here to the younger generation....
