_ALSO IN THE DAY OF THE FIRSTFRUITS, WHEN YE BRING A NEW MEAT OFFERING UNTO THE LORD, AFTER YOUR WEEKS BE OUT, YE SHALL HAVE AN HOLY CONVOCATION; YE SHALL DO NO SERVILE WORK:_ In the day of the first-fruits ... offer the burnt offering. A new sacrifice is ordered for the celebration of this festival, in addition to the other offering, which was to accompany the first-fruits (Leviticus 23:18). The "feast of weeks" is here called "the day of the first-fruits," because at that time were offered the first of their second or wheat harvest; hence, it is called "the feast of harvest" (Exodus 23:16), and also, in a later age, Pentecost, from its being celebrated 50 days after the Passover....

26._Also in the day of thefirst-fruits. _Moses delivers the same commandment as to another festival, viz., that on which they offered their first-fruits. Then, also, he instructs them, the continual sacrifice was to be increased by the addition of two bullocks, one ram, seven lambs, a goat for a sin-offering, together with the _minha _and a libation, with the object, of which I have already spoken. A perplexing difficulty here arises, because in Leviticus 23:0, one bullock is mentioned instead of two, and, on the contrary, two rams instead of one. (238) Some think that an option was left to the priests in this matter; but when I consider how precisely God’s commands were given in everything, I question whether such an alternative was left to their discretion. The notion that God had once been content with a single bullock, as some think, because

16-31 By the sacrifices enjoined in this chapter, we are reminded of the continued power of the sacrifice of Christ, and of our continual need to depend thereon. No hurrying employments, or perilous situations, or prosperous circumstances, should cause slackness in our religious exercises; but should rather stir us up to greater diligence in seeking help from, or giving thanks to the Lord. And all is to be accompanied with repentance, faith is the Lord Jesus, and love to him, and to produce true holiness in our conduct towards all men; otherwise God will abhor our most solemn services and abundant devotions. And Christ is able to supply the wants of every day, every week, every month, every year, every ordinance, every case....

The festival offering at the season of first-fruits was to be offered on one day only; and was the same with that of the new moon and Passover. It nearly though not entirely accords with the sacrificial offering prescribed in Leviticus 23:18 ff....

EXPOSITION THE ROUTINE OF SACRIFICIAL OFFERINGS (Numbers 28:1, Numbers 29:1). NUMBERS 28:1 THE LORD SPAKE UNTO MOSES. It is impossible to say with any assurance whether the law of offerings contained in these two chapters was really given to Moses shortly before his death, or whether it was ever given in this connected and completed form. It is obvious that the formula with which the section opens might be used with equal propriety to introduce a digest of the law on this subject compiled by Moses himself, or by some subsequent editor of his writings from a number of scattered reg

When the firstfruits of the wheat harvest were brought unto the Lord, which was the day of Pentecost, fifty days from the sheaf of the wave offering being brought: WHEN YE BRING A NEW MEAT OFFERING UNTO THE LORD; that is, a meat offering made of the new corn, which were two wave loaves of two tenth deals of fine flour, baked with leaven, Leviticus 23:15 AFTER YOUR WEEKS BE OUT; the seven weeks from the passover to Pentecost, even seven complete sabbaths or weeks, Leviticus 23:15 YE SHALL HAVE AN HOLY CONVOCATION, YE SHALL DO NO SERVILE WORK; see Leviticus 23:21....

NUMBERS 28-29. THE NATURE AND AMOUNT OF THE OFFERINGS REQUIRED ON VARIOUS HOLY DAYS. The quantities prescribed for special festivals did not exhaust all the sacrifices offered upon them: on every festival the special sacrifices were supplemented by the daily offerings; on the first of the seventh month the distinctive offerings were supplemented by the offerings required for the first of each ordinary month; whilst on the tenth of the seventh month the sin offering of atonement (Leviticus 16) was supplementary to the other sacrifices here enjoined.
