Proverbs 7:11

(She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: (Parenthetical description of the whorish woman's characteristics.) (SHE (IS) LOUD AND STUBBORN; HER FEET ABIDE NOT IN HER HOUSE. "Stubborn." The same word as is applied to Israel represented as an untamed and refractory heifer (). Having cast off the wholesome yoke of religious and social restraints, she is ready for every sin. Instead of the soft and gentle voice of feminine modesty, she is "loud," and full of words flowing from assurance. A modest woman shrinks from undue publicity, and is a "keeper at home" (), and industrious (Proverbs 31:10); but she "wanders about from house to house" ...

6-27 Here is an affecting example of the danger of youthful lusts. It is a history or a parable of the most instructive kind. Will any one dare to venture on temptations that lead to impurity, after Solomon has set before his eyes in so lively and plain a manner, the danger of even going near them? Then is he as the man who would dance on the edge of a lofty rock, when he has just seen another fall headlong from the same place. The misery of self-ruined sinners began in disregard to God's blessed commands. We ought daily to pray that we may be kept from running into temptation, else we invite the enemies of our souls to spread snares for us. Ever avoid the neighbourhood of vice. Beware of sins which are said to be pleasant sins. They are the more dangerous, because they most easily gain the heart, and close it against repentance. Do nothing till thou hast well considered the end of it....

Verse Proverbs 7:11. _SHE_ IS _LOUD AND STUBBORN_] המיה _homiyah_, she is never _at rest_, always _agitated_; busily employed to gain her end, and this is _to go_ into the _path of error_: סררת sorereth, "turning aside;" preferring any way to the right way. And, therefore, it is added, _her feet abide not in her house_; she gads abroad; and this disposition probably first led her to this vice....

LOUD AND STUBBORN - Both words describe the half-animal signs of a vicious nature. Compare Hosea 4:16....

SHE [IS] LOUD AND STUBBORN,.... "Loud"; not that her voice may be heard, and so be found by those that seek her in the dark, as Aben Ezra interprets it; but rather clamorous, noisy, and talkative, when she has got her gallant with her; pouring out foolish and unchaste words to allure and entice him; unless it is to be understood of her bawling and scolding, when within doors, at her husband, in order to get him out, and be rid of him; to whom she is "stubborn" or "rebellious", as the Targum, breaking covenant with him, and disobeying his commands; and departing from him, declining out of the way, as Jarchi; speaking rebellion, as Aben Ezra: all which agree with the whore of Rome, who is rebellious against Christ, whose spouse she professes to be; is perfidious to him, disobedient to his commandments; is gone out of the way of his truths and ordinances, and publishes and encourages everyt...

CHAPTER 7 The entire chapter is a continuation of the strange woman and the warning against her. The Word and the law of the Lord will keep the obedient son from her. If Solomon had obeyed the Word of God, not to multiply wives (Deuteronomy 17:17) his end would not have been spent in the degrading fellowship with the harlots of other nations. The description is very graphic. What the word pictures is as prominent in the great centers of Christendom as it was thousands of years ago in Babylon and Egypt. And so it is still true: _ She hath cast down many wounded;_ Yea, many strong men have been slain by her. Her house is the way to hell, Going down to the chambers of death. But think of Solomon after having received these inspired descriptions and warnings, that he should have been forgetful of them all....

The longest and most elaborate description of the adulteress, the fate of her victim, and the value of wisdom as a safeguard. PROVERBS 7:1. General advice to the young man to observe the commandments and the torah of the sage, that he may be preserved from the adulteress. _loud_ or CLAMOROUS, R.V., as the word is rendered in the parallel passage Proverbs 9:13, A.V. _stubborn_ Rather, REFRACTORY, like a restive animal, as the same Heb. word is used of a heifer that casts off all restraint, Hosea 4:16, where R.V. renders _stubborn_, though here _wilful_. Comp. our expression, _unbridled_lust....
