Psalms 113:2

Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD - i:e., the Lord as He hath manifested Himself in His glorious deeds for His people. 'The world which forms a God according to its own fancies has a nameless God' (Hengstenberg). FROM THIS TIME FORTH AND FOREVERMORE. The Psalmist takes for granted as already accomplished the deliverance and exaltation of the Lord's people, and praises the Lord for it, and for the causes of praise which faith assures him the Lord will give "forevermore." Israel shall especially say so "from the time" that the Lord shall restore her, To that time prophetically the allusion is....

2_Blessed be the name of Jehovah _The prophet confirms what I stated above, that the praises of God must be continued throughout the whole course of our life. If his name is to be continually praised, it ought, at least, to be our earnest endeavor, during our brief pilgrimage here, that the remembrance of it may flourish after we are dead. In the next verse, he extends the glory of God’s name to all parts of the earth; wherefore our apathy will be totally inexcusable, if we do not make its praises resound among ourselves. BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD - Blessed be the Lord; or; Let the name of the Lord be blessed. FROM THIS TIME FORTH AND FOR EVERMORE - Now and forever. He is worthy of praise now, and he ever will be. What he is now, he will always continue to be; and as praise is proper now, it will be forever and ever. EXPOSITION This is the first of the "Hallel" psalms, or of those sung at the Feasts of the Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles. It is a "Hallelujah psalm," like the two preceding, but is not alphabetic. As a most joyful hymn of praise, it is selected by our Church to be one of the psalms for Easter Day. The composition falls into three stanzas of three verses each. In the first (Psalms 113:1) the servants of the Lord are called upon to praise him. In the second (Psalms 113:4) God is praised in the heavens, with respect to his glory there. In the third (Psalms 113:7) he is eulogized in respect of his great doings upon the earth....

Some prefix the word "saying", as directing to the matter and manner of praising the Lord, and to express themselves thus; "let the name of the Lord be blessed"; honoured, glorified, spoken well of. FROM THIS TIME FORTH AND FOR EVERMORE; from the beginning of time, or as soon as time began, the Lord's name was to be praised, and was praised by the holy angels, who were present at laying the foundation of the earth, Job 38:4, and all the works of the Lord, in their way, have praised him ever since. We will read, this evening, two passages in the Word of God; the first will be Psalms 113:1 . Psalms 113:1. _Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD._ Three times are you stirred up to this duty of praise. Adore the Sacred Trinity with threefold praise. There is a trinity in you: let spirit, soul, and body praise the Lord. Let the past, the present, and the future make another threefold chord; and for each of these, «Praise ye the Lord. Psalms 113 Hallelujah! Praise His Name! This third Hallelujah Psalm begins with a Hallelujah and ends with Hallelujah. It is given in the Authorized Version as “Praise ye the Lord” (as in all these Psalms). It would be more sublime to maintain this grand old Hebrew word “Hallelujah.” His Name is praised. “Praise the name of the Lord--Blessed be the Name of the Lord.” Yea from the rising of the sun unto the going down, from one end of the earth unto the other, the Lord's Name is praised. He is above all nations. What Hannah so beautifully uttered in her song of Praise has come. “He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; that He may set him with princes, even with the Princes of His people.” That is Israel redeemed by Him. And so is “the barren woman, a joyful mother of children.”...

CXIII. GOD ON HIGH CARES FOR THE LOWLY. Psalms 113:7. The dunghill is like Job's, waste and refuse heaped up outside the village and still the refuge of lepers and diseased persons of one kind or another....
