From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD's name is to be praised. FROM THE RISING OF THE SUN UNTO THE GOING DOWN OF THE SAME THE LORD'S NAME IS TO BE PRAISED - i:e., is worthy of praise (), and shall be praised. Verse Psalms 113:3. _FROM THE RISING OF THE SUN_] From morning to evening be always employed in the work. Or it may be a call on _all mankind_ to praise God for his innumerable mercies to the _human race_. Praise him from _one end of the world unto the other_. And therefore the psalmist adds,...

FROM THE RISING OF THE SUN ... - From the farthest east to the farthest west - the sun in its rising and setting being the remotest object that we see in the horizon. THE LORD’S NAME IS TO BE PRAISED - This does not mean that it “will” be - though that is true; but that it “ought” to be - that it is worthy of universal praise. All people in the east and in the west - everywhere - “should” praise and adore that name....

EXPOSITION This is the first of the "Hallel" psalms, or of those sung at the Feasts of the Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles. It is a "Hallelujah psalm," like the two preceding, but is not alphabetic. As a most joyful hymn of praise, it is selected by our Church to be one of the psalms for Easter Day. The composition falls into three stanzas of three verses each. In the first (Psalms 113:1) the servants of the Lord are called upon to praise him. In the second (Psalms 113:4) God is praised in the heavens, with respect to his glory there. In the third (Psalms 113:7) he is eulogized in respect of his great doings upon the earth....

FROM THE RISING OF THE SUN UNTO THE GOING DOWN OF THE SAME,.... Meaning not from morning tonight; for it designs not time, but place, even all the space from east to west, or that lies between the rising and setting sun; even all nations, and the inhabitants of them; and who ought to praise the Lord for the rising sun, and the benefit and advantages of it; and yet many of them have worshipped the sun, and served the creature more than and besides the Creator. All within this compass are the creatures of God, and the care of his providence, and therefore are bound to praise him and yet he has had this tribute due unto him but from a few. Here it respects Gospel times, when the Gospel should be sent into all the world; and many should be called from the east and west, from the north and south, and fear the Lord and worship him, and offer a pure offering of praise unto him; and his name be...

We will read, this evening, two passages in the Word of God; the first will be Psalms 113:1 . Psalms 113:1. _Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD._ Three times are you stirred up to this duty of praise. Adore the Sacred Trinity with threefold praise. There is a trinity in you: let spirit, soul, and body praise the Lord. Let the past, the present, and the future make another threefold chord; and for each of these, «Praise ye the Lord. Psalms 113 Hallelujah! Praise His Name! This third Hallelujah Psalm begins with a Hallelujah and ends with Hallelujah. It is given in the Authorized Version as “Praise ye the Lord” (as in all these Psalms). It would be more sublime to maintain this grand old Hebrew word “Hallelujah.” His Name is praised. “Praise the name of the Lord--Blessed be the Name of the Lord.” Yea from the rising of the sun unto the going down, from one end of the earth unto the other, the Lord's Name is praised. He is above all nations. What Hannah so beautifully uttered in her song of Praise has come. “He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; that He may set him with princes, even with the Princes of His people.” That is Israel redeemed by Him. And so is “the barren woman, a joyful mother of children.”...

CXIII. GOD ON HIGH CARES FOR THE LOWLY. Psalms 113:7. The dunghill is like Job's, waste and refuse heaped up outside the village and still the refuge of lepers and diseased persons of one kind or another....

FROM THE RISING OF THE SUN, &C.— i.e. from the one end of the heathen world to the other. See Malachi 1:11. "His mercies and goodness to mankind, especially that great evangelical mercy, the gift of Christ, shall be solemnly proclaimed and promulgated....
