Verse Psalms 113:8. _WITH THE PRINCES_] נדיבים _nedebim_, very properly translated by the Anglo-Saxon [A.S.], the aldermen, the most respectable of his people....

THAT HE MAY SET HIM WITH PRINCES - May give him a rank - a position - with nobles and great people upon the earth. Many instances of this nature have occurred in the history of the world. Not a few of the nobles of England, including several of its lord chancellors, have been raised thus from very humble life; and in every nation God shows that he has power to give to those of humblest rank a name and place which no hereditary titles and honors can bestow: thus Shakespeare was the son of a glover and woolstapler. God has power to come into the humblest cottage of poverty, and to bring forth those who shall stand foremost in their generation as people of genius and power. Nothing is more absolute than the power which God thus holds over the nations of the earth, and it is meet that a Being who has this power, and who exercises it, should be praised and honored. EXPOSITION This is the first of the "Hallel" psalms, or of those sung at the Feasts of the Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles. It is a "Hallelujah psalm," like the two preceding, but is not alphabetic. As a most joyful hymn of praise, it is selected by our Church to be one of the psalms for Easter Day. The composition falls into three stanzas of three verses each. In the first (Psalms 113:1) the servants of the Lord are called upon to praise him. In the second (Psalms 113:4) God is praised in the heavens, with respect to his glory there. In the third (Psalms 113:7) he is eulogized in respect of his great doings upon the earth....

As all the saints are by birth, being the sons of God, the King of kings; born of him, and not of the will of man; and are of a princely spirit, have a free spirit, and offer themselves and services willingly to the Lord; have the spirit of adoption, in opposition to a spirit of bondage; and, as princes, have power with God and prevail; and are also heirs of God, heirs of salvation, heirs of a kingdom, as princes be; now such as are raised by Christ and his grace from a low estate and condition are set among those princes here; they are brought to Zion, and have a place and a name in the house of God, better than that of sons and daughters; and become fellowcitizens with the saints; and they are set among princes hereafter in the kingdom of heaven. We will read, this evening, two passages in the Word of God; the first will be Psalms 113:1 . Psalms 113:1. _Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD._ Three times are you stirred up to this duty of praise. Adore the Sacred Trinity with threefold praise. There is a trinity in you: let spirit, soul, and body praise the Lord. Let the past, the present, and the future make another threefold chord; and for each of these, «Praise ye the Lord. Praise, O ye servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord.» Psalms 113:2. Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. From the rising of the sun unto the going down

Psalms 113 Hallelujah! Praise His Name! This third Hallelujah Psalm begins with a Hallelujah and ends with Hallelujah. It is given in the Authorized Version as “Praise ye the Lord” (as in all these Psalms). It would be more sublime to maintain this grand old Hebrew word “Hallelujah.” His Name is praised. “Praise the name of the Lord--Blessed be the Name of the Lord.” Yea from the rising of the sun unto the going down, from one end of the earth unto the other, the Lord's Name is praised. He is above all nations. What Hannah so beautifully uttered in her song of Praise has come. “He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; that He may set him with princes, even with the Princes of His people.” That is Israel redeemed by Him. And so is “the barren woman, a joyful mother of children.”...

CXIII. GOD ON HIGH CARES FOR THE LOWLY. Psalms 113:7. The dunghill is like Job's, waste and refuse heaped up outside the village and still the refuge of lepers and diseased persons of one kind or another....

DISCOURSE: 687 GREATNESS AND CONDESCENSION OF GOD Psalms 113:5. _Who is like unto the Lord our God, who dwelleth on high, who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven and in the earth! He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; that he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people._ VERILY, God is to be praised: “from the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same, his name” should be glorious: “He is above all blessing and praise.” Whether we consider what he is in himself, or what he is to us, we cannot but exclaim, “Who is like unto the Lord?” If men be not filled with admiring and adoring thoughts of him, it is because they know him not, neither contemplate him: but we can scarcely fail of being in some measure suitably impressed with his excellency, if we consider those perfections of hi
