Ésaïe 58:5

Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?

Est-ce un si rapide que j'ai choisi? Un jour pour un homme pour affliger son âme? La douleur ressentie par l'abstinence n'est pas la fin à chercher, comme si elle était méritoire; elle n'a de valeur que dans la mesure où elle nous conduit à modifier nos habitudes (Ésaïe 58:6 - Ésaïe 58:7).

(Est-ce) de s'incliner la tête comme un jonc, et d'étaler un sac? - pour affecter les jetons extérieurs, de manière à "apparaître aux hommes pour jeûner "(Matthieu 6:17 - Matthieu 6:18; 1 Rois 21:27; Esther 4:3).
