AND THEIR GENEALOGY - Rather, “and their register was according thereto” - they were registered, i. e. according to the places where they dwelt....

EXPOSITION 1 CHRONICLES 4:1 After the large space given to the "sons of David," of the tribe of Judah, in the previous chapter, this chapter returns for twenty-three verses to group together a few additional ramifications of the same tribe, whose registers were for some reasons, perhaps not very evident, preserved and known. The first verses follow in the direction already indicated in 1 Chronicles 2:1; near the end of which we were left with Shobal and Haroeh, probably the same with Reaiah (the same name as Reaia, 1 Chronicles 5:5, though not the same person)....

_unto Baal Baal_("lord") standing by itself is an unlikely name for a town; the parallel passage. Joshua 19:8, reads _Baalath-beer, Ramah of the South_("the mistress of the well, the high place of the South"), a better reading....
