27._He hath put all things under his feet _Some think that this quotation is taken from Psalms 8:6 _, _and I have no objection to this, though there would be nothing out of place in reckoning this statement to be an inference that is drawn by Paul from the nature of Christ’s kingdom. Verse 27. _FOR HE HATH PUT ALL THINGS UNDER HIS FEET_] The Father hath put all things under the feet of Christ according to the prophecy, Psalms 110:1. _HE IS EXCEPTED_] i.e. The _Father_, who hath put all things under him, the _Son_. This observation seems to be introduced by the apostle to show that he does not mean that the Divine nature shall be subjected to the human nature. Christ, as Messiah, and Mediator between God and man, must ever be considered inferior to the Father: and his human nature, however dignified in consequence of its union with the Divine nature, must ever be inferior to God. But why discuss this further? Christ _has_ been raised, the firstfruits of the rest of the dead, thus, as one with them, pledging their resurrection. If man brought death, resurrection must equally come through man. The whole race died in Adam, the whole race will be raised from the dead in Christ. This universal resurrection will not be accomplished all at once but in stages according to the different classes concerned. In the first stage there is Christ Himself as firstfruits; in the second, at His return, Christians; in the third stage, the rest of mankind, when He delivers up His kingdom to the Father after He has abolished all hostile powers, for His reign must continue till this has been achieved.
