These words are a quotation from Isaiah 25:8, where the Hebrew is בלע המות לנצח _billa hammaveth lanetsach: He_ (God) _hath swallowed up death in victory_; or, _for ever_. These words in the _Septuagint_ are thus translated: κατεπιεν ὁ θανατος ισχυσας· Death _having prevailed_, or _conquered, hath swallowed up._ But in the version of _Theodotion_, the words are the same with those of the apostle.
