Verse Acts 27:7. _SAILED SLOWLY MANY DAYS_] Partly because the _wind_ was contrary, and partly because the vessel was _heavy laden_. _OVER AGAINST CNIDUS_] This was a city or promontory of Asia, opposite to Crete, at one corner of the peninsula of Caria. Some think that this was an island between Crete and a promontory of the same name. _OVER AGAINST SALMONE_] We have already seen that the island formerly called _Crete_ is now called _Candia_; and Salmone or _Sammon,_ or _Samonium_, now called Cape _Salamon_, or _Salamina_, was a promontory on the eastern coast of that island....

HAD SAILED SLOWLY - By reason of the prevalence of the western winds, Acts 27:4. OVER AGAINST CNIDUS - This was a city standing on a promontory of the same name in Asia Minor, in the part of the province of Caria called Doris, and a little northwest of the island of Rhodes. THE WIND NOT SUFFERING US - The wind repelling us in that direction; not permitting us to hold on a direct course, we were driven off near to Crete. WE SAILED UNDER CRETE - See Acts 27:4.
