Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it. Verse Acts 28:28. _THE SALVATION OF GOD IS SENT UNTO THE GENTILES_] St. Paul had spoken to this effect twice before, Acts 13:46, and Acts 18:6, where see the notes; but here he uses a firmer tone, being out of the Jewish territories, and under the protection of the emperor. By _the salvation of God_, all the blessings of the kingdom of Christ are intended. This salvation God could have sent unto the Gentiles, independently of the Jewish _disobedience_; but He waited till _they_ had rejected it, and then _reprobated_ them, and _elected_ the Gentiles. Thus the _elect_ became _reprobate_, and the _reprobate_ elect. _THEY WILL HEAR IT._] That is, they will obey it

THE SALVATION OF GOD - The knowledge of God’s mode of saving people. IS SENT UNTO THE GENTILES - Since you have rejected it, it will be offered to them. See the notes on Acts 13:46. AND THAT THEY WILL HEAR IT - They will embrace it. Paul was never discouraged. If the gospel was rejected by one class of people he was ready to offer it to another. If his own countrymen despised it, he never allowed himself to suppose that Christ had died in vain, but believed that others would embrace its saving benefits. How happy would it be if all Christians had the same unwavering faith and zeal as Paul....

CHAPTER 28 _ 1. In the Island of Melita (Acts 28:1)._ 2. The arrival in Rome (Acts 28:11). 3. Paul calling the chief of the Jews and his message (Acts 28:17). Melita, which means “honey,” is the island of Malta. It was even then a prominent place for navigation where many vessels wintered. Luke calls the inhabitants Barbarians, a term used by the Greeks for all peoples who did not use their language. The wrecked company was not plundered by the people of the island, but instead received much kindness and were made comfortable in the cold rain which fell. It was God who moved the hearts of these islanders to show such hospitality to the shipwrecked company for the sake of His servants. Paul is a
