To rejoice [α γ α λ λ ι α σ θ η ν α ι]. The word signifies exultant, lively joy. See Matthew 5:12; Luke 1:47; Luke 10:21; 1 Peter 1:6. The interest in the Baptist was a frivolous, superficial, and short - lived excitement. Bengel says, "they were attracted by his brightness, not by his warmth."
