4-14 The feast of the Passover was to continue seven days; not idle days, spent in sport, as many that are called Christians spend their holy-days. Offerings were made to the Lord at his altar; and the people were taught to employ their time in prayer, and praise, and godly meditation. The sheaf of first-fruits was typical of the Lord Jesus, who is risen from the dead as the First-fruits of them that slept. Our Lord Jesus rose from the dead on the very day that the first-fruits were offered. We are taught by this law to honour the Lord with our substance, and with the first-fruits of all our increase, Proverbs 3:9. They were not to eat of their new corn, till God's part was offered to him out of it; and we must always begin with God: begin every day with him, begin every meal with him, begin every affair and business with him; seek first the kingdom of God....

Verse Leviticus 23:14. _YE SHALL EAT NEITHER BREAD, NOR PARCHED CORN, NOR_ _GREEN EARS_] It is right that God, the dispenser of every blessing, should be acknowledged as such, and the _first-fruits_ of the field, c., dedicated to him. Concerning the dedication of the _first-fruits_, Exodus 22:29. _Parched ears_ of corn and _green ears, fried_, still constitute a part, and not a disagreeable one, of the food of the Arabs now resident in the Holy Land. These verses contain a distinct command regarding the religious services immediately connected with the grain harvest, given by anticipation against the time when the people were to possess the promised land. Leviticus 23:10 SHEAF - The original word, “omer”, means either a sheaf Deuteronomy 24:19; Ruth 2:7, or a measure Exodus 16:16. Our version is probably right in this place. LEVITICUS 23:9 (H). THE FESTIVAL OF UNLEAVENED BREAD OR Mazzoth (see pp. 102f.). The wave sheaf is to be cut on the first day of the week, _apparently_ after the Sabbath of the passover week, _i.e._ on the 16th of the month (but no date is actually given). For the ⅕? th ephah (about 3½ quarts), _cf. Leviticus 2:14_. Wine has not hitherto been mentioned in H: in P only in Exodus 29:40.
