_AND THE FLESH OF THE SACRIFICE OF HIS PEACE OFFERINGS FOR THANKSGIVING SHALL BE EATEN THE SAME DAY THAT IT IS OFFERED; HE SHALL NOT LEAVE ANY OF IT UNTIL THE MORNING._ Eaten the same day that it is offered. The main reason why blood was forbidden of old, was because the Lord had appointed blood for an atonement. This use, being figurative, had its end in Christ, who by his death and blood-shedding caused the sacrifices to cease. Therefore this law is not now in force on believers....

Verse Leviticus 7:15. _HE SHALL NOT LEAVE ANY OF IT UNTIL THE MORNING._] Because in such a hot country it was apt to putrefy, and as it was considered to be _holy_, it would have been very improper to expose that to putrefaction which had been consecrated to the Divine Being. Mr. Harmer supposes that the law here refers rather to the custom of _drying flesh_ which had been devoted to religious purposes, which is practised among the Mohammedans to the present time. This, he thinks, might have given rise to the prohibition, as the sacred flesh thus preserved might have been abused to superstitious purposes.
