The breaking of Christ's body as a sacrifice for us, is therein brought to our remembrance by the breaking of bread. Nothing can be more nourishing and satisfying to the soul, than the doctrine of Christ's making atonement for sin, and the assurance of an interest in that atonement. Therefore we do this in rememberance of what He did for us, when he died for us; and for a memorial of what we do, in joining ourselves to him in an everlasting covenant. The shedding of Christ's blood, by which the atonement was made, is represented by the wine in the cup....

Verse Luke 22:20. _THIS CUP_ IS _THE NEW TESTAMENT IN MY BLOOD_] Perhaps it might be better to paraphrase the passage thus: _This cup which is_ _poured out for you_, signifies the blood of _the new covenant_, which is shortly to be ratified _in_ (or _by_) the shedding of _my blood_. Or, _This cup is the new covenant, poured out for you with my_ _blood_: - that is, the paschal sacrifice and my sacrifice happen together. But see _Kypke_.
