Verse 24. _WHAT HAVE WE TO DO WITH THEE_] Or, _What is it to us_ _and to thee_? or, _What business hast thou with us_? That this is the _meaning_ of the original, τιημινκαισοι, Kypke has sufficiently shown. There is a phrase exactly like it in 2 Samuel 16:10. _What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah_? מה לי ולכם בני צרויה ma li v'lacem beney Tseruiah, _What business_ _have ye with me_, or, _Why do ye trouble me, ye sons of Tseruiah_? The Septuagint translate the Hebrew just as the evangelist does here, τι εμοι και ὑμιν; it is the same idiom in both places, as there can be no doubt that the demoniac spoke in _Hebrew_, or in the _Chaldeo-Syriac_ dialect of that language, which was then common in Judea. These words mean, not the title of the book, but the commencement of the narrative; and so they depend upon what follows, namely, "as it is written" (καθῶς for ὠς), "even as it is written."
