Proverbs 8:9

They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge. THEY (ARE) ALL PLAIN TO HIM THAT UNDERSTANDETH, AND RIGHT TO THEM THAT FIND KNOWLEDGE - (, "Do not my words do good to him that walketh uprightly? Yet attention to the words of Christ, will guide the most ignorant into saving knowledge of the truth. Verse Proverbs 8:9. _THEY_ ARE _ALL PLAIN_] נכחים _nechochim_, straight forward, over against every man, level to every capacity. This is true of all that concerns the salvation of the soul. _TO THEM THAT FIND KNOWLEDGE._] When a man gets the _knowledge_ of _himself_, then he sees all the _threatenings_ of God to be _right_. When he obtains the knowledge of GOD in _Christ_, then he finds that all the _promises_ of God are _right _- yea and amen....

She is contrasted with the strange woman of Proverbs 7:1; and the exceeding greatness of the blessings which she offers exhibits in the most marked manner the nothingness of the deceiver's gifts. THEY [ARE] ALL PLAIN TO HIM THAT UNDERSTANDETH,.... Whose understanding is enlightened by the Spirit of God; who is a spiritual man, that has a discerning, and can judge of spiritual things: as for the carnal man, let him have what natural knowledge or wisdom he will, he cannot know these things; for they are spiritually discerned, and can only be discerned by spiritual men. The Bible is a sealed book to others, learned or unlearned; the mysteries or doctrines of the Gospel are hid in parables from such; but those to whom Christ has given an understanding to know him, these know them, and they are plain unto them: for though there are some things hard to he understood in the Scriptures, as in Paul's epistles, and some sublime truths in the Gospel; yet those which are necessary to salvation are easily understood; that faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Jesus Christ came...

PROVERBS 8. WISDOM SPEAKS IN HER OWN PERSON. This chapter forms at once the nucleus and the climax of this section of the book. The series of addresses on practical wisdom is fitly closed by a profounder presentation of wisdom as the moving principle in the ways of God. It reinforces the practical maxims of Proverbs 8:1 with the fundamental principle that the wise man is in harmony with God. Its date probably fixes the date of the whole section (see Introduction, and for a fuller discussion especially Cheyne, _Job and Solomon,_ pp. 156f.). The relation of the conception of Wisdom personified to the Stoic Logos and to Greek philosophy in general cannot be discussed here.
