10-21 All God's works show forth his praises. He satisfies the desire of every living thing, except the unreasonable children of men, who are satisfied with nothing. He does good to all the children of men; his own people in a special manner. Verse Psalms 145:21. _LET ALL FLESH BLESS HIS HOLY NAME_] He is good to all, wants to save all, actually feeds and preserves all. And as near as שמר _shamar_ is to שמד _shamad_, so near is he a _Saviour_ to those who stand on the brink of _destruction_, if they will look to him. The matter is praise to God; the style, the Hebrew alphabet, the better to assist our memories in recording God's praise. This Psalm contains, - I. MY MOUTH SHALL SPEAK THE PRAISE OF THE LORD - That is, I will utter his praise. In view of all these things, in view of his character and doings, I will praise him. I will be found among those who honor him; who acknowledge him as the true God; who render homage for what he is, and thanks for what he has done. EXPOSITION WITH another hymn of praise, this late collection of Davidical psalms, previously omitted from the Psalter, terminates. Like verses 25. and 34; also Davidical, this psalm is alphabetic, and also, like them, it is incomplete, the letter _nun _being omitted. Like most of the ether alphabetical psalms, it consists of meditations on a single theme, which is here the righteousness and goodness of God (1) to men in general; (2) to his own people; and (3) and more especially, to those that suffer. The metrical arrangement of the psalm is into three stanzas of seven verses each. When you get to the 145 th Psalm, you enter the Beulah Land of the Psalms. Henceforth, the time of the singing of birds is come; and you go from one Hallelujah to another. In the Hebrew, this is one of the alphabetical Psalms, but one letter (nun) is omitted, perhaps, as Dr. Bonar suggests, that «we must be kept from putting stress on the mere form of the composition.» Those ancient singers sang their way through the alphabet from A to Z, and it is well for us also to begin to praise the Lord while we are yet children, and to keep on praising him till we get to the «Z» in the very hour of death, gasping his praises till we get into eternity. «My God, I'll praise thee while I live, And praise thee when I die, And praise thee when I rise again, And to eternity.» Psalms 145:1. PSALM 143-145 In Psalms 143:1 the enemy is mentioned again, the enemy who pursued David. “For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has smitten my life down to the ground; he has made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have long been dead.” How this again reminds us of the death experience of the pious remnant when the man of sin, the Antichrist will rule in Israel's land. CXLV. THE NATURE OF YAHWEH. This Ps., which borrows from very late sources (Psalms 145:13, _e.g._ is translated verbally from the Aramaic of Daniel 4:3), is a useful summary of the Divine attributes, as a pious Jew conceived them. For God is mighty and glorious, kindly and compassionate. At the same time, He will destroy the wicked. The Ps. is alphabetical, each verse beginning with a letter of the Heb. alphabet in due succession. By some accident the letter Nun is omitted, but the lost verse can be supplied from the LXX.
