Verso Éxodo 28:1. Aaron - y sus hijos.  El sacerdocio debía limitarse a esta familia porque el culto público debía limitarse a un solo lugar, y antes de esto el mayor de cada familia oficiaba como sacerdote, ya que no había un lugar de culto establecido. Se ha observado muy acertadamente que, si Moisés no hubiera actuado por designación divina, no habría pasado por encima de su propia familia, que continuaba en la condición de levitas ordinarios, y establecido el sacerdocio, la única dignidad en la nación, en la familia de su hermano Aarón. "Los sacerdotes, sin embargo, no tenían ningún poder de naturaleza secular, ni parece por la historia que llegaran a tenerlo hasta la época de los asmoneos o los macabeos. " Éxodo 19:22.
