I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; I AM THE LORD YOUR GOD; WALK IN MY STATUTES. It is an indirect denial of God, and a robbing Him of His due, to add man's inventions to His precepts....

Let us proceed then. _I, _says he, _am Jehovah your God; walk you in my statutes, and observe my judgments_. God confirms the former sentence, and at the same time provides a remedy for all corruption’s when he says, _walk you in my precepts, because I am your God: _for by these words he claims as peculiarly his own what men commonly arrogate to themselves. They do not dare, indeed, to despoil God of his authority, but they carry themselves as his allies, and infect his law with their commentaries, as if it was not sufficient for complete and solid wisdom. Here, therefore, God pronounces himself to be the only lawgiver. If, therefore, _I am your God, walk you in. my statutes. _Hence it follows, that we indirectly deny God when we turn aside even a little from his law. The passage is remarkable, if we only estimate the Prophet’s language aright. For the two clauses must be read together,_...

10-26. The history of Israel in the wilderness is referred to in the new Testament as well as in the Old, for warning. God did great things for them. He gave them the law, and revived the ancient keeping of the sabbath day. Sabbaths are privileges; they are signs of our being his people. If we do the duty of the day, we shall find, to our comfort, it is the Lord that makes us holy, that is, truly happy, here; and prepares us to be happy, that is, perfectly holy, hereafter.
