In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness. Verse Jeremiah 33:16. _AND THIS_ IS THE NAME _WHEREWITH SHE SHALL BE CALLED,_ _THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS._] See what has been said on Jeremiah 23:6, (Jeremiah 23:6,) which is generally supposed to be a strictly parallel passage: but they are very different, and I doubt whether they mean exactly the same thing. Compare the marginal reference. When the good word was spoken, the name Yahweh our Righteousness was given to the righteous Sprout: here it is given to Jerusalem, i. e., to the Church, because it is her business mediately to work on earth that righteousness which Christ works absolutely. EXPOSITION A chapter of promises, having reference, first, to the people and kingdom in general (Jeremiah 33:4), and then to the royal and priestly offices in particular (Jeremiah 33:14). The first part is but the expansion of passages in the preceding prophecy, to which this chapter is attached by the opening verse. The remaining portion is less closely connected; it is occupied by promises of the perpetual duration of the house of David and of the Levites. It should be noticed by the student that there are difficulties connected with the authorship of Jeremiah 33:14, Jeremiah 33:26 (see below)....

The elect of God among the Jews; and all such who are Jews inwardly, who truly believe in Christ, and confess his name, and praise him, and give him the glory or salvation.
