Verse Matthew 13:12. _WHOSOEVER HATH, TO HIM SHALL BE GIVEN_] This is an allusion to a common custom in all countries: he who possesses _much_ or is _rich_, to such a person, _presents_ are ordinarily given. _WHOSOEVER HATH NOT, FROM HIM SHALL BE TAKEN AWAY EVEN THAT HE_ _HATH._] That is, the _poor man_: he that has _little_ may be easily made a prey of, and so lose his little. This is a proper sense of the word εχειν in sacred and profane writers. In 1 Corinthians 11:22, τους μη εχοντας, _those who have not_, means simply THE POOR: and _Aristophanes_ uses τους εξοντας, _those that have_, for the RICH or OPULENT.
