_THE STEPS OF A GOOD MAN ARE ORDERED BY THE LORD: AND HE DELIGHTETH IN HIS WAY._ The steps of a (good) man. The Hebrew х_ GEBER_ (H1397)] for 'a man' is literally a hero, a valiant man. So "valiant for the truth," Jeremiah 9:3. Compare with the sentiment, 1 Samuel 2:9. HE DELIGHTETH IN HIS WAY - therefore it cannot but prosper, as in Joseph's case (Genesis 39:2; Genesis 39:21; Proverbs 16:7)....

21-33 The Lord our God requires that we do justly, and render to all their due. It is a great sin for those that are able, to deny the payment of just debts; it is a great misery not to be able to pay them. He that is truly merciful, will be ever merciful. Verse Psalms 37:23. _THE STEPS OF A GOOD MAN ARE ORDERED BY THE LORD_] There is nothing for _good_ in the text. גבר _geber_ is the original word, and it properly signifies _a strong man_, a _conqueror_ or _hero_; and it appears to be used here to show, that even the _most powerful_ must be supported by the Lord, otherwise their strength and courage will be of little avail. _AND HE DELIGHTETH IN HIS WAY._] When _his steps are ordered by the_ _Lord, he delighteth in his way_, because it is that into which his own good Spirit has directed him. Or, the _man delights in God's_ _way_-in the _law_ and _testimonies_ of his Maker....

THE STEPS OF A GOOD MAN ARE ORDERED BY THE LORD - Margin, “established.” The word rendered “ordered” means to stand erect; to set up; to found; to adjust, fit, direct. The idea here is, that all which pertains to the journey of a good man through life is directed, ordered, fitted, or arranged by the Lord. That is, his course of life is under the divine guidance and control. The word “good” has been supplied here by our translators, and there is nothing corresponding to it in the original. It is simply there, “the steps of man are ordered,” etc. Yet there can be no doubt that a good or pious man is particularly referred to, for the connection demands this interpretation. The word “steps” here means his course of life; the way in which he goes. AND HE DELIGHTETH IN HIS WAY - In his course of life; and, therefore, he blesses him. EXPOSITION THIS is another of the alphabetical psalms (see above, Psalms 9:1; Psalms 25:1; and 34.), and, though more free from irregularities than the previous ones, is not altogether without them. While, generally, each letter heads a stanza consisting of two verses, there are three occasions on which the stanza assigned to a letter is formed of only one verse (see Psalms 37:7, Psalms 37:20, and Psalms 37:34).
