Psalms 37:30

_THE MOUTH OF THE RIGHTEOUS SPEAKETH WISDOM, AND HIS TONGUE TALKETH OF JUDGMENT._ The mouth ... and his tongue ... judgment. The law ... his heart ... shall slide. As previously he has mentioned the consolations of the godly, so now, lest any should appropriate these without being the kind of person for whom they were intended, he proceeds to describe the character of the godly. He does so in the threefold aspect presented in the decalogue: the words of the "mouth" and "tongue;" the actions, or "steps;" between these two, the heart, the center of all. SPEAKETH WISDOM (_ YEHªGEH_ (H1897)) - literally, meditates wisdom. His utterances are wisely considered beforehand. "Wisdom" of speech and goodness of speech, in the Scripture view, are one, even as sin and folly are one (Matthew 12:35). As the first clause is

30_The mouth of the righteous will speak wisdom _As it is customary with hypocrites confidently to draw to their own advantage whatever the Spirit of God declares concerning the just and upright, David here gives a definition of the righteousness which God requires on the part of his children, and divides it into three principal parts — that their speech should be in sincerity and truth; that the law of God should reign in their heart; and that they should order their conversation aright. Some give a different exposition of the first part from what we have given: they say that the righteous serve as teachers and guides, by instructing others to live well, and leading them in the way; and, therefore, _to speak wisdom, _and _to utter judgment, _is, in their view, of the same import as to instruct others in holy doctrine, and to train them to the fear of God. 21-33 The Lord our God requires that we do justly, and render to all their due. It is a great sin for those that are able, to deny the payment of just debts; it is a great misery not to be able to pay them. He that is truly merciful, will be ever merciful. We must leave our sins; learn to do well, and cleave to it. This is true religion. The blessing of God is the spring, sweetness, and security of all earthly enjoyments. And if we are sure of this, we are sure not to want any thing good for us in this world. By his grace and Holy Spirit, he directs the thoughts, affections, and designs of good men. By his providence he overrules events, so as to make their way plain. He does not always show them his way for a distance, but leads them step by step, as children are led. God will keep them from being ruined by their falls, either into sin or into trouble, though such as fall into sin will...

THE MOUTH OF THE RIGHTEOUS SPEAKETH WISDOM - That is, It is a characteristic of the righteous to speak “wise things;” not to utter folly. His conversation is serious, earnest, true, pure; and his words are faithful, kind, and just. This, as a part of human conduct, is one of the reasons why God will bless him with prosperity and length of days. AND HIS TONGUE TALKETH OF JUDGMENT - That is, of just or righteous things. EXPOSITION THIS is another of the alphabetical psalms (see above, Psalms 9:1; Psalms 25:1; and 34.), and, though more free from irregularities than the previous ones, is not altogether without them. While, generally, each letter heads a stanza consisting of two verses, there are three occasions on which the stanza assigned to a letter is formed of only one verse (see Psalms 37:7, Psalms 37:20, and Psalms 37:34). XXXVII. An acrostic poem. Its object is to teach patience and hope. The pious Jews, the Hasidim of Psalms 4:3 * who observe the Law strictly, are at present poor and oppressed.
