EXPOSITION This chapter is occupied with three subjects. _First, _the description of Heaven's acceptance of the dedicated temple by fire (2 Chronicles 7:1). _Secondly, _the_ _sacrifices and glad feasting of Solomon and all Israel for several days (2 Chronicles 7:4). At this time He did not say again “Ask what shall I give thee,” but He assured him that Solomon's prayer had been heard and He had chosen the dedicated place for Himself. He graciously assures the king that if He has chastised His people by sending drought, locusts or pestilence and they humble themselves, and seek His face, turning away from their wicked ways, that He will forgive and heal their land. The fire burned up the *sacrifice by fire and the other *sacrifices. And the *LORD’s *glory filled the *temple. V2 The priests could not enter the *LORD’s *temple, because the *LORD’s *glory filled it. V3 All the *Israelites saw the fire that came down from heaven. THE LORD’S RESPONSE TO THE PRAYER OF SOLOMON (2 Chronicles 7:11. Comp. 1 Kings 9:1). The substance and, for the most part, the language of both passages are the same, but the chronicler paraphrases occasionally, and has added a considerable section not extant in Kings (2 Chronicles 7:13).
