Verse 2 Chronicles 7:22. _BECAUSE THEY FORSOOK THE LORD_] While they cleaved to God, the most powerful enemy could make no impression on them; but when they forsook him, then the weakest and most inconsiderable of their foes harassed, oppressed, and reduced them to bondage and misery. It was by no personal prowess, genuine heroism, or supereminent military tactics, that the Jews were enabled to resist and overcome their enemies; it was by the Divine power alone; for, destitute of this, they were even worse than other men....

EXPOSITION This chapter is occupied with three subjects. _First, _the description of Heaven's acceptance of the dedicated temple by fire (2 Chronicles 7:1). _Secondly, _the_ _sacrifices and glad feasting of Solomon and all Israel for several days (2 Chronicles 7:4). 4. THE SECOND VISION CHAPTER 7:11-22 _ 1. All finished by Solomon (2 Chronicles 7:11)_ 2. The divine answer and the warning (2 Chronicles 7:12) A second time the Lord appeared unto Solomon. At this time He did not say again “Ask what shall I give thee,” but He assured him that Solomon's prayer had been heard and He had chosen the dedicated place for Himself. He graciously assures the king that if He has chastised His people by sending drought, locusts or pestilence and they humble themselves, and seek His face, turning away from their wicked ways, that He will forgive and heal their land.
