Verse 2 Chronicles 7:20. _THEN WILL I PLUCK THEM UP BY THE ROOTS_] How completely has this been fulfilled! not only all the _branches_ of the Jewish political tree have been cut off, but the very _roots_ have been plucked up; so that the day of the Lord's anger has left them neither _root_ nor _branch_....

EXPOSITION This chapter is occupied with three subjects. _First, _the description of Heaven's acceptance of the dedicated temple by fire (2 Chronicles 7:1). _Secondly, _the_ _sacrifices and glad feasting of Solomon and all Israel for several days (2 Chronicles 7:4). At this time He did not say again “Ask what shall I give thee,” but He assured him that Solomon's prayer had been heard and He had chosen the dedicated place for Himself. He graciously assures the king that if He has chastised His people by sending drought, locusts or pestilence and they humble themselves, and seek His face, turning away from their wicked ways, that He will forgive and heal their land.
