EXPOSITION This chapter is occupied with three subjects. _First, _the description of Heaven's acceptance of the dedicated temple by fire (2 Chronicles 7:1). _Secondly, _the_ _sacrifices and glad feasting of Solomon and all Israel for several days (2 Chronicles 7:4). 4. THE SECOND VISION CHAPTER 7:11-22 _ 1. All finished by Solomon (2 Chronicles 7:11)_ 2. The divine answer and the warning (2 Chronicles 7:12) A second time the Lord appeared unto Solomon. At this time He did not say again “Ask what shall I give thee,” but He assured him that Solomon's prayer had been heard and He had chosen the dedicated place for Himself. He graciously assures the king that if He has chastised His people by sending drought, locusts or pestilence and they humble themselves, and seek His face, turning away from their wicked ways, that He will forgive and heal their land. The fire burned up the *sacrifice by fire and the other *sacrifices. And the *LORD’s *glory filled the *temple. V2 The priests could not enter the *LORD’s *temple, because the *LORD’s *glory filled it. V3 All the *Israelites saw the fire that came down from heaven. And they saw the *LORD’s *glory above the *temple. They bent down on the footpath with their faces to the ground. They *worshipped and they gave thanks to the *LORD.

BUT. — _And._ Kings omits, but emphasises the verb, “If ye _will_ turn,” or, “if turn ye will.” The order of words in the Heb. implies that _û-bnêkem, “_and your children,” has fallen out of the text: “And if ye turn, ye and your children.” So Kings, and Syriac and Arabic here. Kings adds, “From after me.” AND FORSAKE. — Kings, “and keep not.” So Syriac and Arabic....

As the ceremonies had begun with sacrifice and song, so they closed, and it is quite easy to realize how "joyful and glad of heart" the people were as they dispersed. Had only the king and people remained on the high altitude on which they stood that day, their history would have been very different. How deeply we should realize the awful truth, that even in the midst of such high experience the seeds of evil may already be at work in our life. Solomon's greatest work now being completed, God appeared to him in a second vision, in which He first declared that the work done was accepted, and Solomon's prayer heard and answered. Then with the tenderness and faithfulness of His infinite love He restated for Solomon the conditions of Solomon's safety. Obedience would be rewarded with continuity of blessing.
