_BUT I AM POOR AND SORROWFUL: LET THY SALVATION, O GOD, SET ME UP ON HIGH._ But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high - or rather, 'thy salvation shall set me upon high.' So the Septuagint, Vulgate, Arabic, Syriac, and Ethiopic. But the Chaldaic as the English version. His very misery, combined with his having committed his cause to God, gives him the confident anticipation that he shall be set up on high; whereas his enemies shall be brought low. This is the ground of Messiah's exaltation (Philippians 2:6). The praise follows more naturally (Psalms 69:30) in this view than in the English version....

29._As for me, I am poor and sorrowful. _(97) From this verse we perceive more distinctly how David cast away from him the swelling and raging passion of those who, with ungovernable fury, pour forth imprecation and vengeance. EXPOSITION THIS is the cry of one suffering severely from men, partly on account of his own sins (Psalms 69:5), but mainly for the sake of God (Psalms 69:7). LXIX. A PRAYER FOR DELIVERANCE AND REVENGE. The author was a pious Jew, burning with zeal for the purity of the Temple worship (Psalms 69:9). He was a representative man, so that the reproaches of those that reproached Yahweh fell upon him. If he was defeated, the pious throughout Israel would lose hope. He was in great danger of his life, and that from his fellow-Jews (Psalms 69:8).
