And the king said unto the footmen that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not shew it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD.

Mais ils ont choisi de désobéir au roi plutôt que d'offenser Dieu en imprégnant leurs mains du sang de ses serviteurs. Un étranger seul (Psaume 52:1 - Psaume 52:3) pourrait être trouvé prêt à être le bourreau de cette phrase sanglante et sacrilège . Ainsi fut accomplie le destin de la maison d'Eli (voir les notes à 1 Samuel 2:1 - 1 Samuel 2:36.)
