EXPOSITION EXODUS 29:1 THE CONSECRATION OF THE PRIESTS. From the description of the priestly attire, the Divine Law-giver passed to the form of priestly consecration, whereof investiture in the "holy garments" was a part. The ceremony of consecration was to consist of four things:— 1. Ablution; 2. Investiture; 3. Chrism or Anointing with oil; and 4. Sacrifice. ALL THE FAT THAT COVERETH THE INWARDS— By _the fat that covereth the inwards,_ is meant a fat, thin membrane, spread over the intestines, and fastened to the concave part of the liver, and named the _omentum_ or _caul._ By _the caul that is above the liver_ is meant, according to the LXX and others, _the great lobe that is upon_ or _by the liver._ The _caul_ was much used in ancient sacrifices; the Persians offered nothing but this to their gods.
