_AND I WILL DWELL AMONG THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL, AND WILL BE THEIR GOD._ I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will be their God. This was the high and special privilege of Israel, that God had chosen their land, their tabernacle (afterward their temple), as the place of His residence; and throughout the whole duration of their national existence, it was their grand distinction above the nations that Yahweh condescended to dwell among them by the material symbols of His glory-to dwell among them, and give unmistakeable proofs to the world, by His procedure toward Israel, that He was the only true God. 38-46 A lamb was to be offered upon the altar every morning, and a lamb every evening. This typified the continual intercession which Christ ever lives to make for his church. Though he offered himself but once for all, that one offering thus becomes a continual offering. This also teaches us to offer to God the spiritual sacrifices of prayer and praise every day, morning and evening. Our daily devotions are the most needful of our daily works, and the most pleasant of our daily comforts. Prayer-time must be kept up as duly as meal-time. Verse 45. _I WILL DWELL AMONG THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL_] This is the _great charter_ of the people of God, both under the Old and New Testaments; see Exodus 25:8; Leviticus 26:11-3; 2 Corinthians 6:16; Revelation 21:3. God dwells AMONG them: he is ever to be found in his Church to enlighten, quicken, comfort, and support it; to dispense the light of life by the preaching of his word, and the influences of his Spirit for the conviction and conversion of sinners. EXPOSITION EXODUS 29:1 THE CONSECRATION OF THE PRIESTS. From the description of the priestly attire, the Divine Law-giver passed to the form of priestly consecration, whereof investiture in the "holy garments" was a part. The ceremony of consecration was to consist of four things:— 1. Ablution; 2. Investiture; 3. Chrism or Anointing with oil; and 4. Sacrifice. In the directions given, we have, first, the preparation of the offerings (Exodus 29:1); secondly, directions for the ablutions (Exodus 29:4); thirdly,
