And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further. AND THEY DREW NIGH UNTO THE VILLAGE WHERE THEY WENT - or 'were going' [ eporeuonto (G4198)]. AND HE MADE AS THOUGH HE WOULD HAVE GONE FURTHER - but only "as though;" for He had no intention of going further. 28._And they drew near to the village. _There is no reason for supposing, as some commentators have done, that this was a different place from _Emmaus; _for the journey was not so long as to make it necessary for them to take rest for the night at a nearer lodging. Verse 28. _HE MADE AS THOUGH HE WOULD HAVE GONE FARTHER._] That is, _he was going on, as though he intended to go farther_; and so he doubtless would had they not earnestly pressed him to lodge with them. His preaching had made a deep impression upon their hearts, Luke 24:32, and now they feel it their greatest privilege to entertain the preacher. This is a constant effect of the doctrine of Christ: wherever it is _felt_, the Author of it, the ever-blessed Jesus, is earnestly entreated to dwell in the heart; and he who preaches it, is amply provided with the necessaries of life by those who have received his testimony....

EXPOSITION LUKE 24:1 THE RESURRECTION. All the four evangelists give an account of the Resurrection. None of the four, however, attempt to give a _history _of_ _it simply from a human point of sight. THE APPEARANCE ON THE WAY TO EMMAUS. This exquisite story is told by Lk. only. The village is perhaps the Ammaus of Josephus, the modern Kolonije, five miles W. from Jerusalem. Luke 24:19 f_._ describes Jesus as a prophet who His friends hoped (till the hope was shattered by His death) might prove to be the Messiah. They are shown that Scripture foretold Messiah's death; it was necessary to His glory. That glory was apparently attained in the moment of the death (_cf. Luke 23:42_ f.).
