12-21 Nothing could be less the result of human foresight than the events here related. But our Lord knows all things about us before they come to pass. If we admit him, he will dwell in our hearts. The Son of man goes, as it is written of him, as a lamb to the slaughter; but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed! God's permitting the sins of men, and bringing glory to himself out of them, does not oblige them to sin; nor will this be any excuse for their guilt, or lessen their punishment....

Verse 19. _AND ANOTHER SAID, IS IT I?_] This clause is wanting in BCLP, _seventeen_ others, _Syriac, Persic, Arabic, Coptic,_ _AEthiopic, Vulgate_, and four of the _Itala. Griesbach_ leaves it doubtful: others leave it out....

EXPOSITION MARK 14:1 NOW AFTER TWO DAYS WAS THE FEAST OF THE PASSOVER AND THE UNLEAVENED BREAD; literally, _the passover and the unleavened _τό πάσχα καὶ τὰ ἄζυμα. It was one and the same festival. The killing of the Paschal lamb took place on the first of the seven days during which the festival lasted, and during the whole of which they used unleavened bread. JESUS REVEALS THE TREACHERY OF JUDAS. The other evangelists regard Judas as present at this meal. Mk. implies it, but does not explicitly state it. The reference to the Twelve in Mark 14:17 may be simply conventional (_cf._ 1 Corinthians 15:5).
