The reckoning here is so very similar to that in Matthew 25:19, that the same exposition will answer for both; if only it be observed that here we have different degrees of future gracious reward, proportioned to the measure of present fidelity....

11-27 This parable is like that of the talents, Luke 19:25. Perhaps it would be well, with Bishop PEARCE, to supply the word _gained_-give it to him who hath _gained_ ten minas; _for I say unto you, That unto every one who hath_ gained _shall be given; and, from him who hath not_ gained, _even that_ _which he hath_ received, _shall be taken away_....

FOR I SAY ... - These are the words of the “nobleman” declaring the principles on which he would distribute the rewards of his kingdom. BUT THOSE MINE ENEMIES - By the punishment of those who would not that he should reign over them is denoted the ruin that was to come upon the Jewish nation for rejecting the Messiah, and also upon all sinners for not receiving him as their king. EXPOSITION LUKE 19:1 _Jesus lodges in the house of Zacchaeus, _"_the_ _chief among the publicans_"_ at Jericho. _This episode, which took place at Jericho just before the Lord's entry into Jerusalem the last time, is peculiar to this Gospel. That the source was Hebrew (Aramaic) is clear from the wording of the narration. PARABLE OF THE TALENTS (Matthew 25:14 *). There are some differences in the two versions. In Lk. the man of Mt. becomes a prince who (like the sons of Herod the Great) journeys (to Rome) to have his title and dominions confirmed. So Jesus departs to heaven to be invested with the Messianic Kingdom.
